School days are some of the most fantastic days in our lives, we get to do almost everything we ever dream’t of doing because life is free at that stage. It’s just books and our sweet simple lives, Sweet moments never last longer though.

So when it all comes to an end, the next thing we all think of is getting employed somewhere, we flood offices and offices dropping our resumes but all in vain and this causes us tremendous frustration.   We all thought getting a job after school was that easy, we dream’t of working in big offices and the best organizations and now reality hits us so hard. Jobs are not readily available.

So what next are you going to resign and just sit back or sleep? There is so much more you can do during this time, let’s try these simple 3 tips and see how they build us, I tried them and honestly am not frustrated am at peace and patiently waiting for the next step.

What are the 3 Things You Would do While You’re Still Looking For a Job ?

1. Consider Volunteering, Internships and Fellowships

Volunteering involves working and helping out in any place of your choice for example orphanage, church, small or big organization without being paid. Internships are mostly done in the course of studying and even after the course and fellowships are organized once in a while and in most cases offer free training to everybody. All these are important because they help build your resume, add on your skills and experience which are the employers’ major interests when it comes to the job market. They also help you to learn time management and completing tasks on time.

Go to offices this time not looking for employment but volunteering, from my own experience, it’s very hard for an employer to reject a volunteer unless they have no space at their premises but otherwise volunteers are welcome almost in every office most especially the fresh graduates and students. There are also some paid internships that can help you earn money as you polish your skills. Don’t sit home opportunities are out there if you try your best.

2. Learn Something New, as you Wait to Get a Job

It can be something you have always dream’t of doing but you had no time during school days or something that you think will add value to you. It can be a new language that you have always admired speaking, it could be a skill, game and so many others. I always admired baking cakes and cookies but I never had time during school so immediately after school, I embarked to fulfilling my dream and as I write now, I have baked countless cookies, so may queen cakes and so far four big coconut cakes. This didn’t come magically, I devoted my time and had to make sure I learn from scratch using online baking tutorials and truthfully I don’t regret any single bit of it. It’s an amazing experience and skill that am proud I learnt.

This will automatically boost your potential and add on your resume for example a new language will fetch you more chances to land on a job that was hard to get before.

3. Start a Blog

There a number of platforms like wordpress , Blogger,that give you a chance to get a blog free of charge. Get your blog and write about your interests, you don’t have to write topics that everybody does do something different. You can write something in line with your field of study or things that you love most. This will expose you to great opportunities, you may learn a lot and find that you don’t need anyone to employee you after this. Please stop this mentality that blogs are owned by only professional writers, no I believe everyone can write something so keep polishing your skills and sooner than you expect, you will be good.

Even if you have been home doing nothing for almost five years after grad school, it’s never too late you can still start with these 3 Things You Would do While You’re Still Looking For a Job and in no time you will be there.
