2 Most Confusing Wireless And Mobile Devices

In the present date, technology has become part of life and now it is very common to come across terms like wireless and mobile devices,  Wi-Fi, internet, tabs, computers, smartphones, selfies and many other terms.

However, it is very possible that many people do not usually understand some of these devices. Today, will share with you a trick and also analyse the two most confusing wireless and mobile devices. It is very true that these two terms have some qualities that in a kind go hand in hand.  For example, some devices are both wireless and mobile while others are wireless but not mobile and so many other different features found in different devices.

Wireless Devices

Wireless is the communication between two devices without cables while wired is the communication between two devices via cables. This means that wireless devices do not use any form of cable. And the transmission of data which includes your files, music, printing to the printer and many others occurs over radio waves.

Mobile Devices

A mobile device is a portable, wireless computing device that is small enough to be used while held in the hand. There are many types of mobile devices, the commonest among them being, mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, pagers and Personal Navigation Devices. PDAs and smartphones are among the most preferred mobile devices, which offer all the conveniences of a personal computer, along with a very small form factor.

Characteristics of Mobile Devices

1. Portability

Mobile devices have the ability to be moved frequently and can function and operate consistently while on the move, regardless of proximity to a power source or physical Internet connection. This is because most of them contain rechargeable batteries that allow several hours or more of operation without access to an external charger or power source.

2. Small Size

Mobile devices are usually small enough to fit in the average adult’s hand or pocket or small enough to be carried anywhere in convenience. Some mobile devices may fold or slide from a compact, portable mode to a slightly larger size, revealing built-in keyboards or larger screens. The reason they are called mobile is because they are small enough to be carried anywhere, yet can function in the way the user wants them to.

3. Wireless Communication

Mobile devices are usually capable of communication with other similar devices, with stationary computers and systems, with networks and portable phones. Also, most mobile devices are capable of accessing the Internet through Wi-Fi networks, blue tooth and many wireless functions.

The two Most Confusing Wireless and Mobile Devices

There are devices that are confusing in terms of wireless and mobile features. Most people never realise that such devices are either mobile, or wireless or both. It all depends on the functions and the makeup of that particular device. Such confusing devices include, laptops, corded and cordless phones and many others.

Laptops

Most times when we think of mobile devices, the images that come to our minds mostly regard to smartphones and tablets. However, regardless of size limitations, laptops are mobile devices since many are available with a form structure that is smaller than some of the larger tablets.

Of course, from the definition I gave above, the defining descriptor for a mobile device must fall to its portability, and this clearly sets the key difference between a laptop and a desktop computer. A large number of people, may not consider a laptop as a mobile device,

but in deep sense a laptop is a mobile device. Though laptops appear in many different sizes, most laptops are in fact smaller than the desktops and other large computers. A laptop is easier and portable, making it qualify to be a mobile device. It is in no doubt that a laptop is, in fact, a mobile device adding on the fact that they are wireless and can keep power for some time and can connect to Wi-Fi networks.

Phones

There are quite a number of phones (smart phones, corded phones, cordless phones and many others) and these are wireless, wired, mobile, immobile and many others features.

Corded Phones

A corded telephone is a phone where the handset is connected by a cord to the phone’s base station and there is a wire that requires you to keep in one place to use. Corded phones have wires and require people to be seated or standing in one place to have that conversation with the person at the other end of the line. These phones cannot be carried for convenience purposes because they are wired and therefore have to be connected to a source by a wire. This disqualifies them from being wireless and therefore cannot be mobile since they are not convenient and portable to carry from one place to another.

A corded telephone has some significant benefits over cordless phones and cell phones. These benefits are utilized by many offices and businesses, although many people prefer the availability of a corded telephone at home as well.

Cordless Phones

Cordless phones can easily be carried around, practically like mobile phones. These do not have cords connecting them to the phones base. Therefore they are very mobile and can be carried around like a mobile phone.  A cordless phone usually is very portable and one can use it while moving from one place to the other. This makes them wireless and mobile.

However, even though the cordless phone can be moved from one place to another or at a certain distance from the base where it is charged, it cannot be used out of the premises for example like out of the office premises or out of the home. This makes them portable, mobile and wireless only within the premises where their bases are.

There is another type of cordless phone that is attached to its base, but is wireless and therefore can be moved from place to place with its base though. However, this kind of cordless phone is good for offices and homes and to me, cannot be considered mobile compared to other phones like smart phones. Yes, they are wireless and have cool functions but are immobile compared to other mobile phones. So, we would say, these types of phones attached to their bases with no wire to limit the movement of the user are wireless but not mobile enough to be regarded as true mobile devices. For example, it would look funny for me seeing someone walking down the street with such a cordless phone. It is wireless but it is way too big to be considered mobile for such a street movement usage.

At present, most people use both wireless and mobile devices, this distinction may seem very simple, but it is not very simple as most people suppose. However, depending on how you may define mobile devices, some devices may appear not to be mobile yet they are mobile. For example, the laptop and many more devices. As new technologies continue to develop, and companies continue to offer more different kinds of upgrades and new models, most new devices are wireless and mobile.
